TCAP teams up with OACAA to help families in need

Wednesday, Mar 23, 2016

Trumbull Community Action Program (TCAP) teamed up with the Ohio Association of Community Action Agencies (OACAA) to help families in need in support of the Needy Families Project 2015.

OACAA contributed up to $1000 to the efforts of each Ohio community action agency to help families in need.

Upon learning about the Needy Families Project 2015, TCAP was excited to participate in this important cause. The agency utilized its Food Co-Op grocery store in sharing in the project mission of helping families in need by creating the Food Co-Op Food Voucher campaign. The campaign allowed for twenty $50 food vouchers to be distributed throughout Trumbull County. Recipients were determined by income eligibility.

Recipients could use the $50 food voucher for any item(s) in the store.

“This (food voucher campaign) is so helpful. I would not be able to afford all of these items otherwise,” said one recipient, who was able to purchase a large supply of groceries with the voucher. “I’d really like to see this program continue.”

Prior to receiving the $50 food voucher, this particular recipient was unaware of TCAP’s Food Co-Op. “This is my first time here and I now plan on returning. What a great resource for the community.”

The TCAP Food Co-Op offers local shoppers fresh groceries and canned goods at a largely discounted price.  There is no membership required. Senior citizens 55 and over receive 10 percent off all items every Thursday. Cash, checks and food stamps are accepted. The store is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. and closed on holidays.
