WARREN - Nearly $1 million in federal economic stimulus package dollars will be used in Trumbull County to fight homelessness and provide employment services and activities, Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland has announced.
The $242,700 Trumbull will be receiving will be used to provide financial assistance and services to help prevent individuals and families from becoming homeless or assist those experiencing homelessness to become stabilized, according to Strickland's office.
"We are focusing our efforts to combat homelessness during these tough economic times," Strickland said. "The resources provided through the Recovery Act will enable us to better assist Ohio families and individuals with the help and housing they need.''
Mahoning County is receiving $304,000. The combined region of Geauga and Ashtabula counties is receiving $728,000.
The Trumbull Community Action Program (TCAP) is receiving $736,209 to provide services and activities addressing employment, emergency services, and a variety of activities to combat poverty.
Distribution of funds is expected to begin in June and continue over the next two years.
In Mahoning County, the Youngstown Area Community Action Council is receiving $1.9 million; Ashtabula County Community Action is getting $412,267; and the Community Action Agency of Columbiana County, $445,661.
"The services provided through this program will help strengthen Ohio's communities and families," Strickland said.
